Monday

My perspective and goals have changed.  I've decided to add borders here and call it a day -- completing just part of the heart, which feels symbolic.

Boho Heart

We enjoyed a quiet rainy day today.  I spent the afternoon working on the next section of Boho Heart.  It's coming along sloooowly.  I have about 5 more similar-size sections still to complete.

Boho Heart

Back to work on Boho Heart today.  It doesn't look like I got much done, but actually I got myself re-organized and back into production mode with the background areas.  All the strips I used today will reappear way down on the bottom part of this section.  They're all different lengths, so cutting requires some concentration.

Actually, the most challenging part of this project is not placing the pieced square blocks, that's just a grid system.  The confusing part is the background -- all those narrow strips need to stay in exact sequence to fulfill the appearance that they are continuous lines behind the giant heart.  One strip out of sequence would throw the whole thing off!

Boho Heart

Way back in early December I was wandering through my studio, trying to choose something to work on.  At that time, I came up with Boho Heart and Rainbow 9-patches.  Then the holiday season got busy, and I didn't return to either project box.

I finally had the opportunity today to focus and make decisions about sewing time.  The 9-ps will be delegated to my RSC22 category, which I'll be starting later this week.  I also opened the Boho Heart tub and spent time reacquainting myself with all that stuff -- fabric, book, notes, templates.

I started Boho Heart a year ago with good intentions.  It's a complicated and relatively large quilt project and needs concentration.  Last spring when we suddenly plunged into packing and moving, I put it all away and never returned to it.  It took me a little while today to decipher my notes and reestablish my color plan.  The section I will be working on calls for 27 blocks of varying sizes.  I pieced five of them today, so I'm off and running.  And now that I have my head back in the game, I'm looking forward to finishing Boho Heart!

Some possibilities ...

Now that Nick's family has gone home to Boston, and the house has settled back down to normal, I have the urge to do some sewing.  It's been several weeks since I've had a chance to be creative, and I'm trying to settle onto a project.

One of the of possibilities that I'm considering is Boho Heart, a UFO from last winter.  This Jen Kingwell design is absorbing and challenging.

And then there's this collection of 6" Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks.  Close to 200 blocks here, so a lot to be creative with!

Hmmm, we'll see where my muse leads me :)

Boho Heart

I made it to the half-way point with Boho Heart today!
I can only work on this when I have a stretch of uninterrupted sewing time -- it needs great concentration, and the various components need to be spread out all over the room for assembly so everything remains in correct order as I pick up the small units.  The background strips need to line up from top to bottom, even though they are not continuous, so attention needs to be paid, inch by inch.  It's like doing a puzzle.  Not something I can work on when L + L are here -- they rummage through everything in the house!

Boho Heart

I'm still piecing along slowly on Boho Heart.  Looks like a hot mess here, but it'll come together in the end.  My color palette is established now, and I like how it's progressing.

Boho Heart

I finished piecing the first section of Boho Heart.
So far, so good -- three more sections to go.

Boho Heart

I did a first pull of fabrics for Boho Heart.

I guess my palette is going to lean a little farther toward hot colors than the original.  I'm not going to include turquoise -- I'll substitute citron green in those blocks.  I still need to investigate lights for the background strips, but I want to make up some blocks first, and see how my colors are going to play together.  I'm looking forward to piecing!!
