RSC25: May - green

The RSC25 May challenge color is GREEN.

I found quite a few greens to work with in my batik drawer.

I have 40 blocks in this group already!

Amazingly, I just completed cycle #37 of my meds. It's been three years since my diagnosis of Stage IV cancer. I thought I'd be gone by now ... but the meds are still working, and when their effectiveness starts to diminish there will be others I can try.

Sigh.  My perspective on life has certainly changed in this intervening three years.

RSC25: April - RED

Wrapping up RED with quite a few little corner blocks.
This has not been a quilty month for me.

Green is next month's challenge color.

RSC25: April - red

Not much sewing happening this week.  Did my regular log cabin blocks but no further red inspirations.

RSC25: April - red

RSC25: April - red

Launching the new challenge color with my regular set of batik uneven 9-patch blocks.

Already 32 blocks in this set!

I have a HUGE amount of red fabric -- maybe I'll make progress this month with my ongoing goal of stash reduction.

RSC25: March - yellow

RSC25: March - yellow

Well, I'm ending March with not-particularly-yellow, but good intentions.

This is the honeycomb yardage that I unearthed when I was sorting through my yellow stash tub at the beginning of the month. With it, a FQ set of Needl' Love bee fabrics from several years ago, and an idea for a simple project.  I was busy this week with Nick's visit so no sewing progress, but I'll get back to it next week.

I also did some organizing with the huge overload of gold fabrics that were overcrowding the yellow tub: a possible future project, and I'm ready to conclude YELLOW month.

I think teal is next month's RSC challenge color, so maybe I'll make use of this fabric pull in some way ...

RSC25 - March yellow

RSC25: March - yellow

I finished up working on my regular RSC blocks for the month with this nice array of little corners.

And to finish out March - yellow, I'm pondering some sort of project with these yellow bee/hive fabrics that were unearthed while I was weeding out my yellow stash tub at the beginning of the month.

RSC25 March - yellow

Not much RSC25 action going on this week.  I had very few yellows in my batik drawer, so I'm not adding many uneven 9-patch blocks to the collection.

RSC25: March - yellow

Our RSC25 challenge color for March is YELLOW.
I got things rolling with my monthly pair of log cabin blocks.

I also weeded out a large pile of gold-not-really-yellow fabric that I'm not likely to consume ever. It will be gifted or donated away.  I'm still very much committed to major stash reduction in 2025!  Too much fabric to use comfortably here, so some of it has to find a new life elsewhere.

RSC25: February - blue

RSC25: February - blue

The blue Disappearing 9-patch blocks came together into a nice bright interesting top!  It's actually larger than I expected, about 65" x 65".  It will be waiting in the To-Be-Quilted basket until I need a donation quilt.

RSC25: February - blue

RSC25: February - blue

I pieced my monthly quota of Disappearing Rails blocks this week. This gives me 10 of the targeted 35 blocks, so this project is progressing.

And again used the leftover 2 1/2" bits to make small corner units.  I'll need a couple billion more of these to make an entire quilt.

RSC25: February - blue

RSC25: February - blue

I've settled into a comfortable RSC routine this month, repeating the blocks I launched in January.  This week, some classic log cabins again.

And a plan for my stack of blue fabrics.  My overarching goals for the year are stash reduction and replenishing my donation quilts supply, so nothing fancy on the docket for blue RSC25.  I decided to go with simple Disappearing 9-patch blocks.

They work up easily, and a nice comfort quilt will happen in the not-too-distant future.

RSC25: February - blue

It's the first weekend of RSC25 February - BLUE

I'm starting with batik uneven 9-patch blocks this month.

As I was rummaging through my BLUE stash tub, I unearthed a complete bundle of blue coordinated pairs that I pulled last year for RSC and never got to.  (Each one of these has a companion 'light' folded inside of it.) Maybe this year I'll move ahead with these fabrics ...

And I did go back and piece two more of the PINK disappearing rail blocks that I started last week.

They are successful and interesting, so I've decided that my target will be five blocks from each month's challenge color to end up with a 5 x 7 layout.  At 10" each, 35 blocks will give me a nice lap-size donation quilt.

RSC25: January - pink

RSC25 - January: pink

Not much this week, I'm pretty distracted.

Here's a block built using 2 1/2" strips, variously called
Split Rail Fence or Disappearing Rails.
First, sew up two squares and cut diagonally ...

... and rearrange.  The resulting block is 10" finished.  I'll aim for 35 -- a 5 x 7 layout would give a decent size donation quilt.

The assembled blocks look complicated but are quite easy to sew.
Diagonal edges, though, so spray starch is helpful.

And then these little corner units using leftover 2 1/2" bits.
Quick, but small.
I'll need to make a LOT of them to ever get to an actual quilt.
