Scrappy Stars

I did manage to finagle out borders for my Scrappy Stars top.  I like the 'float' effect -- I think it highlights the blocks.  Even though I ended up going my own way, this was a fun sew-along and I enjoyed playing with odds and ends of repro scraps.  This top is going into the To-Be-Quilted basket for now and will become a donation quilt someday.

Scrappy Stars

Big leap of progress here!

I got my scrappy star blocks assembled, and things are looking good.  I'm pretty sure I have enough of the orange fabric left to eke out a narrow float border -- measuring will tell.  Although the antique inspiration quit was on-point, I think my straight-set version is a good interpretation.  Just didn't feel up to dealing with setting triangles and bias ...

Scrappy Stars

Sooooo, I've reached the end of my attention span for star-making.  I'm up to 35 stars, which with alternate blocks will give me a 7 x 10 layout.  I'm not going to put them together on-point, just opting for the simpler basic checkerboard instead.

I unearthed a nice chunk of soft orangey-toned yardage for my alternate blocks, very similar to the vintage quilt we're being inspired by.

Scrappy Stars

I'm still enjoying sorting through my scraps and sewing stars.  I've been making extras, so I'm quite a bit ahead of the Scrappy Stars Stitchalong group.  I like the vintage effect I've achieved so far.

Meanwhile, Lorenzo has been asking about the Halloween quilt project, which has been sidetracked due to the stars. So I'm putting the stars on pause for a bit, until the Halloween quilt is done.  Hmmmm, I said that same thing the other day, but didn't actually shift gears.  October is coming up soon!

Scrappy Stars

I continue to putter along with the Scrappy Stars Stitchalong being hostessed by Taryn at Reproquiltlover.  My blocks fall into the "inspired by" range rather than attempting to be close copies of the original blocks.  I don't have nearly as many different plaids in my stash as the vintage quilt seems to contain.

Several other blog friends are also working on the Scrappy Stars Stitchalong :

It's fun to compare progress with other quiltmakers!

The next challenge block should be released later today or tomorrow.

A Whimsy

Just for fun: Taryn at ReproQuiltLover blog has organized a Scrappy Stars Stitchalong -- an entertaining way to use up some of the repro bits and pieces in our scrap tubs!  Three times a week she will be sharing a challenge block from her original quilt.

We will be choosing our own scraps to reproduce/reinterpret this charming antique Ohio Stars crib quilt.  Every star is different! The blocks are only 6", so I'm making two each time to end up with a larger quilt.  The most difficult part of this stitchalong is selecting just the right bits and scraps ... and I certainly do have an *abundance* of scraps!
