Barbara Brackman's 2022 pieced BOM

AMERICAN STARS

#12 - Kaleidoscope Star

I made an additional block of my own design to fill my layout.

Complex piecing all year was an excellent challenge!  Barbara's BOMs are always interesting, informative, and enjoyable.  Her historical research is amazing, and I love her sly sense of humor!

My quilt has already been finished and donated.  A successful project but I was not into red, white and blue this year -- I should have chosen a different color scheme.  Oh well, onward to the next BOM, beginning mid-January ...

It's month #2 of Barbara Brackman's BOM series

AMERICAN STARS

This month she discusses the Key family, including Francis Scott Key.  He is remembered as the author of the Star-Spangled Banner, which later became the American national anthem.

Star-Spangled Four Patch

I'm piecing this block series using paper templates and machine sewing.  As long as I observe alternating pressing directions for the seams everything is aligns nicely.

Today is the first installment of

of Barbara Brackman's 2022 pieced BOM

AMERICAN STARS

Each month Barbara will discuss a noteworthy American family, and their influence on the current events of their time.  Pieced four-pointed stars will represent these families.  The 12" blocks can be created using either templates or foundation papers.  We begin the series with the McKim family's accomplishments, and

STELLAR MEMORY

I will be using soft reds, blues and pale yellows for my blocks throughout the year.  I'm considering a strippy layout for my blocks.

Barbara Brackman has just announced her 2022 BOM!

American Stars

The series will explore some of the influential families in American history.  We'll be working on 12" four-pointed star blocks.  Either template-piecing or paper foundation piecing can be used as the assembly method.

Truth be told, I have a hard time feeling patriotic anymore -- this country is in such dire straits -- so I'm not comfortable using Americana/flag-waving/patriotic fabrics.  Instead, I've chosen some soft traditional blues and reds from my *extensive* French General fabric collection.

The series begins the second week of January, and Barbara's BOMs are always awesome.  Her research is excellent, and her sense of humor is a joy!
