A variation

Temecula Quilt Company had been running a weekly sew-along for most of the year, and they revealed the project conclusion in early October.  I started with them back in January, but I gave out in April.

Recently I decided to move this UFO forward.  I added the brown bird embroidery to the center medallion, and layered and organized things for hand quilting.  It's a nice small piece to pick up whenever I have 20 minutes or so to stitch off another strand of thread -- the hand quilting will be done **someday** in its own time :)   

I must say that I'm totally enjoying being retired!  My time and energy had been so very scattered for the past year or so -- I've finally regrouped and I'm having the chance to redirect my attention back to my own interests.  My UFOs are biting the dust!  Once I get a few more things finished up, I'm going to start something exciting and new!

A fork in the road!

 

As I was considering last week, I have in fact decided to not continue with this sew-along project.  This morning I assembled  everything I had pieced already.  I have a couple of ideas in mind for filling the center medallion -- I'll report back when I'm ready to move on to that next step.

 I'm toying with the possibility of assembling what I have now to turn the center into a rectangle, embroidering something in the medallion, and calling this project done.  It will be a pretty little mat.  My attention seems to have moved on to

other things.

Our assignment this week for

Circa 2016

is to assemble the blocks we've already pieced into a medallion-style center.

 

I did a little bit of color manipulation and substitution to end up with a highlighted center.  I'll be adding some applique there in the coming days.  My brown-plus-scrappy colorway continues.

A new free series ...

... is being offered by Temecula Quilt Co.!
 

It's called 

  CIRCA 2016

 and it begins today, with each new step appearing on Fridays to follow.  The project involves pieced mini blocks, which will become a medallion quilt finishing at about 48" x 55".  (Yes, that will be a LOT of mini blocks.)  

 

I hadn't planned to participate in this sew-along, but I always enjoy piecing, so here we are.  Today's first step involves making four cute little 2 1/4" pinwheels, and sure enough: I had enough scraps right on my work table to get started!  It seems as if my color scheme will be scrappy-with-brown.
