#30 I Like

I like that the plumbers only needed to make two holes in the downstairs ceiling to replace
 the broken drain pipe.

Next week will be better.

#29 - I Like

I like the progress being made with our bathroom remodel.  The tile work is done, and flooring installation has begun.   We're getting there.  (!!!)

I liked our snowstorm earlier this week!  We've officially exceeded our annual average amount of snowfall now, and that goes a long way toward drought remediation.  (Keeping track of rainfall/snowfall totals is a local obsession.  The economy here is entirely tourist-dependent; skiing in winter and fishing in summer.)

These two guys really liked their rainbow popcorn!
Jess took them to the marina the other day, and they had fun chasing gulls and sharing their popcorn with them.

# 28 - I Like

I've been neglecting doing 'I Like' posts, but I need to get going again because I truly am grateful every day for the goodness in my life.  I'll get myself restarted with a quick list this week.

I like that it's light now in the early morning.  It feels like spring is right around the corner!

I like the tasty Olive Bread I made yesterday.  I did half the recipe -- just one loaf -- and used the bread machine.  We had grilled cheese sandwiches for supper last night.

I like the daffodils sprouting along the garage.  We're due for a bit more snow over the weekend, but Nature keeps inching forward anyway.

I like that steady progress is being made with the upstairs remodel project.  It's not fun to have so much disruption in the house, but it's going to be wonderful when all is done.  Meanwhile, the working guys are nice.

#27 I Like

We saw Little Women this week and I loved it!  The costumes and hairstyles and home interiors were amazing.  We were fortunate to have visited Orchard House in Concord MA, the location of this story, when we were in Boston this past summer, so I have very specific memories and mental pictures of these places.

I often eat dry Cheerios as a snack in the evenings -- automatically healthier than crackers or chips, and the oats are especially beneficial.  I just ran across this 'Limited Edition' Coconut flavor at the market.  Very tasty and a nice change of pace from plain :)

I like snuggling into bed early on a cold winter night, with flannel sheets, bright quilts, feather pillows and a good book!

#26 I Like, On the Eighth Day of Christmas ...

The subject of today's contemplation is supposed to be the weather, and people making predictions about the coming year based on weather signs.

I'm going to put a spin on that, and reflect on "accepting things beyond our control" … weather being just one of them.  One member of my family was a fretter, a worrier, a complainer.  Always.  About everything.  Including the weather, which we really truly can't do anything about.  It was exhausting to be in this person's company, because every subject was a matter for concern and complaint and resistance.  I spent so much energy just deflecting all the negativity that I was depleted before we even had a chance to consider anything good or positive.

Because I knew how this attitude affected me, I began making a deliberate choice to be the opposite -- to NOT be like that myself.  I've taught myself to look for the bright side of life, and to accept things I can't change.  I try to limit the exposure I have to negative people and depressing vibes.

I cannot change the weather.  And even though it does rain sometimes, I choose to enjoy my life.  I want my cup to be always at least half full!

#25 - I Like, On the First Day of Christmas ...

"The next twelve days are the mystical interval between Christmas and Epiphany, when time is suspended and magic can happen.  It's a thoughtful time, filled with reflection and expectation."

The weeks before Christmas are so hectic and full, there's hardly enough time to catch one's breath, much less be meditative.  I decided this year to take time after Christmas Day instead to appreciate the gifts of my life.  My thoughts and reflections will be loosely based on the traditional European holidays that take place during these twelve days, as outlined in a favorite book, The Winter Solstice by John Matthews.

Today I am celebrating the beauty of nature in this wonderful valley high in the mountains!  I wake up every single morning filled with gratitude that I am able to live in this amazing place.  This is an actual photo from yesterday morning, it is gorgeous up here!
