Well, my bias-y edges continued to worry me.  Even with this flimsy resting peacefully over the upper stair railing, I kept envisioning more stretching and waving going on, just due to the evil effects of gravity. (!!)

So I measured and pinned and measured again, and added straight borders to contain the problem.

Much better -- it's safe now.  My mind is at ease.  All bundled together with the back and the binding, waiting to be quilted **someday**.

Queen Victoria's nine children are represented in the royal purpley-mauve colors that were in vogue at the time.  My gold star is for Victoria's first son, Bertie, who became King Edward VII.

We added the pieced borders this week to complete the secondary stars, so this flimsy is officially 'done' per the sew-along instructions.  But it's extremely wavy due to the many triangles, so I'm thinking of adding a straight-of-grain outer border to calm down the bias edges.  Then it moves onward to the to-be-quilted basket.  No particular destination in mind for this quilt, I just did it for the sew-along experience.

Arthur was his mother's favorite.  He had a successful military career, married for love, and enjoyed a long and pleasant life.

I'd just gotten started on it last week when a horrible winter storm blew through and we were without power for a couple of days … so no iron, sewing machine, etc.   Hopefully I'll make better progress this week!

 Louise was an artist who led a controversial lifestyle.  

I'm pleased with the way my colors are developing.  Next week we'll be doing another 'boy' block, and then my secondary star color arrangement can settle into a alternating pattern.

It's Week 2 for Barbara Brackman's series

This week's article describes Crown Prince Albert Edward, Queen Victoria's second child and first son.  He was not her favorite child, although they came to terms as he grew to adulthood.

Barbara Brackman has launched a new sew-along:   

STARS IN HER CROWN

This series will be fast and furious, with a new block coming out every Saturday for ten weeks.  Several size and method options are offered.  Although it will conclude quickly, it will be a challenging series, definitely not for beginners :)

Each of Queen Victoria's nine children will be discussed, along with an original star block representing each of the royal offspring.  The time frame for the historical information is mid to late 1800s.  I'm going to use purples for my royal stars, specifically in the mauve-plum-puce range of purple fabrics that were available at that time.

This week's article introduces us to Queen Victoria's first child, Victoria, The Princess Royal.  Vicky was a favorite of her parents.

Barbara Brackman recently announced
an upcoming sew-along called

Stars in Her Crown: Victoria's Royal Children

The series, inspired by Queen Victoria and mid-1800s British history, begins on January 5.  It will continue for ten weeks.  The star blocks will be offered in two sizes, and will be best constructed using paper foundation piecing.  Barbara's accompanying historical information is always outstanding. 

I'm think I'm going to work along on this one, because it's a pieced project and because it runs for a relatively short time. I pulled some purple and gold fabrics that I may possibly include: a royal quilt!

Barbara will also be offering a 

2019 block of the month series called

Hospital Sketches.  

This one will be an applique project.  It will also be offered with size and style options.  I'm not sure I'll commit to it, since I currently have two other applique projects going -- time and whim will tell.
