And another one done!

Quilted, and binding sewn around, ready to be stitched down during TV time.  I started this one in ummmm: maybe August, as a Rainbow Scrap Challenge project.  I'm also counting this one in my NewFo2013 tally, because I'd listed a red and white quilt for December for that challenge.

The motivation to finish everything that's been piled up in my workroom for a while is that the room will be put to use as a second guest room over the holidays.  All the heaps of clutter need to get hidden away someplace.   To further illustrate the challenge I'm facing, I store all of my big 40-yard rolls of batting in the guest bathtub, so that needs to be cleared out and hidden someplace too, but not in the sewing room which is where I would normally put it when the regular guest bedroom/bathroom are being used.

We're expecting a house-full!  But of course if the weather is stormy and the roads are bad, that could change to nobody coming up at all ...

A completion

I got this wintery 9-patch finished and fluffed through the dryer last night.  It's quilted with simple hanging diamonds and will be used as a utility quilt in January, after the Christmas decorations are put away.  Sewing time is getting harder to come by, the busier the holiday season becomes ...

Retro Wreaths

I'm delighted to have this quilt finished up, just in time for Christmas decorating!  I started it last fall, and have been working on it sporadically all year.

It's hand appliqued, which is the main reason it took so long.  It also features Nice Quilting, rather than just quickie meandering.

The fabrics, the blocks and the "by the piece" quilting all make it feel vintage to me -- looks like a classic from my childhood Christmas memories.

A log cabin completion

These blocks were started almost a year ago ... finally got everything together and finished in time for autumn!

Log cabins are my all-time favorite blocks!

Album quilt

The blocks in this album quilt were collected from a Yahoo swap group in 2011.  They were inspired by the quilts found in
Album Quilts of Ohio's Miami Valley  by Sue C. Cummings.

The last time I worked with this project was well over a year ago.  It had rested long enough, so I brought it out a couple of weeks ago and sprinted to the finish line.  Hooray -- another one crossed off the list!

Watermelon strings

My guild's comfort quilt inventory is reeeeaaaally low right now, so I zipped up an extra one for this month's meeting.  These were **interesting** fabrics from the guild's stash.  Just need to turn that binding to the back and it'll be good to go.

Maple Leaves

Hmmm, having **a little** trouble getting a picture to load ...

Anyway, I finished assembling this top yesterday!  Blocks were from a swap last fall, but I didn't have a chance to work on the quilt at that time.  Finally got it together and now it's going to be my 'sit on the porch and hand quilt' project for the summer.

For summer

I just finished up this little red-white-and-blue quilt.  I did the 9ps a couple of months ago for a swap that was cancelled, so I decided to make use of the blocks.

I'll use this quilt on the rocker out on the front porch for the summer patriotic holiday season.

Moving this one along

This was a partial set of Block-of-the-Month blocks that has been languishing in my UFO pile for ages.  I no longer liked the intended quilt, and the block instructions weren't written well, so I didn't feel like putting any more time into the project.  I decided to just put the blocks on hand together and call it a day.  It's now cleared off my table, the reserved fabrics have been put away, and I'll quilt it up next to be a comfort quilt.

They can't all be wonderful, right?  Sometimes 'done' is good enough!  Checking this one off the UFO list!

And now for something completely different ...

... these certainly aren't my usual repro fabrics, are they?

These bright cheerful blocks were donated by the members of the String Thing Along group that I belong to.  I used them to make a comfort quilt, which will go to Doves, our local domestic violence safe house.  Thanks, friends, for your generous support!

Wednesday

We woke up to (hopefully) the season's final dusting of snow this morning, but it's all melted already, and we're back to springtime.

This week I'm working on a RWB log cabin for

I'd originally planned to make a string quilt for this purpose for the NewFO2013 challenge, but it seems to have morphed into a log cabin.  Anyway, another NewFO2013 completion!

Thursday

I've been working on this top for the past few days.  I won some of these Hourglass blocks last year in a block lotto at the 30s Repro Yahoo group I belong to, and I made a few more blocks recently to enlarge the quilt. Next I need to go through my backing tubs and find something appropriate for this project.

Also making progress on appliqueing the Christmas Dresdens ... and a few other projects-in-progress on my design wall.

Stash report - week 13

Used this week: 7.00 yards
Used year to date: 104.25 yards
Added this week: 0.00 yards
Added year to date: 23.00 yards

Net used for 2013: 81.25 yards

One fourth of the way through the year, and I'm doing quite well with stash busting!  It's not so much that I'm consuming more fabric than I have in previous years.  It's that I haven't been buying much new fabric at all -- less than half as much as in past years at this time.

If I continue, I can expect to have about 300 yards less fabric in December than I started the year with!  That would certainly be a Good Thing :)
