I got my scrappy log blocks assembled today!  I was determined to get this done before the end of the year so I would not be carrying over a UFO.  Mission accomplished!

And that's a wrap for another excellent Barbara Brackman BOM series!  Her 2024 pieced BOM, Washington Whirlwind, will begin on January 10.

A completion

I crossed the finish line with this set of UFO blocks I discovered a few weeks ago in the holiday fabric tub.  And it's done well in advance of the Christmas decorating season, high-five to me!

My UFO tally stands at 3 tops and 4 block sets.

Scrappy Stars

I did manage to finagle out borders for my Scrappy Stars top.  I like the 'float' effect -- I think it highlights the blocks.  Even though I ended up going my own way, this was a fun sew-along and I enjoyed playing with odds and ends of repro scraps.  This top is going into the To-Be-Quilted basket for now and will become a donation quilt someday.

Strange Brew

Hooray -- got the Halloween batik quilt finished at last!

Babysitting obligations coming up on five of the next seven days, and medical appointments on the two remaining days, so I'm not optimistic about getting much done this week out in the studio.  Sigh.  The texture of my life is so very different now.

A completion -- quilted and bound!

I chose this eclectic and scrappy fabric assortment to convey an autumny feeling here in this non-four-season place that doesn't actually have autumn.  This quilt will become part of my Fruitlands series. 

The majority of these fabrics are from Australian designers.  Both the color palettes and the subject matter of these fabrics are a little different from my usual choices. The number of quilt projects I have left in me is dwindling, and accordingly I'm starting to close out some of the categories in my fabric stash.

We're looking forward to a big crop of figs this year, and to apples and grapes, but very few persimmons -- that tree must be on an alternate-bearing cycle.  The oranges, coming later, also look promising.

Month 4 complete -- I got the flock of geese flying in the right direction!

I've kind of run out of steam with this sew-along.  I'm just going to add a narrow finishing border and call it good.

Trinket finale

I did some preliminary kantha stitching on this and finished the binding.  Will add more kantha from time to time, but it's ready to be put to use now as a summer quilt -- no batting so it's thin and lightweight and drapey.

Filling time

Recently I've been spending my evenings with this meditative little hand quilting project. I needed to keep my hands busy while I was revisiting my 'anniversaries of the heart.'  Sigh.  I'll get back to embroidery in a day or so.

Scrap completion

I used the remaining spring-hued scraps that were piled on the corner of my worktable to make this long skinny 'throw over the back of the rocker' quilt: Ducks in a Row.  This is the companion quilt to Cascarones that was completed last month.  As soon as this year's never-ending rain is done, we'll jump right into spring.

And now I'm looking forward to exploring several new project ideas!

A completion!

Finally, some quilty content here!

I persevered and finished this springtime quilt that I started back in January.  It will become part of my home collection, replacing one done in similar colors that Jess adopted a couple of years ago.  And I have a pile of scraps on the worktable and an idea, so we may see more of this palette soon.

RSC23: February - pink

I got to 'flimsy' stage with my pink log cabin blocks.  I ended up with a sweet classic little nap-size quilt, destined to be a donation quilt eventually.  This is the finale of February/pink RSC for me, not as much to show for the month as I'd hoped.  My heart's kind of not into it anymore.

So when I calculate scraps into yardage and add allocations for a back and binding, this project only consumed about 4 yards of fabric -- not nearly enough to make a difference with my goal of stash reduction.  Even though I no longer purchase quantities of fabric like I did in the past, I have a huge collection, and at this rate of consumption it will continue to be an enormous amount for many years.  Sigh.

I made some progress this week with the 5" blue squares I was cutting -- they've become blocks, and a top is coming along.  

The quilt is not looking nearly as blue as I'd expected, but I'm heading in the right direction for my color inspiration photo.  I'll still think about borders, but so far, so good.  This will eventually become a donation quilt.
