RSC20: January - green

This week I decided to 'go green' by finishing up this block set from the Countdown to Christmas sew-along.  Sort of not an RSC activity, but there's lots of green in these blocks and I'm tired of this Christmas stuff which has been piled on my table since November.  So this Candlelight block set is assembled -- I may still add borders at a later date.  I have one final block set to work on.  But that won't happen until later: all the Christmas clutter has been bundled back into its tote tub and sent back down to the basement to simmer until summer or fall.  Or a week before next Christmas, haha.

I also did some green Broken Dishes blocks yesterday to add to a growing set.  I'm somewhere near 50 with these, and probably aiming for 150 or so.  They're only 4", so I need quite a few of them.

And I ended up green for the week with more
 crumb blocks.

First quilt of 2020!

Woohoo -- I'm very pleased to share this top, fresh from the sewing machine and ironing board!

These are some of the blocks I pieced last month during

I was trying to work down some of my Christmas stash, and ended up with three block sets.  This first one, as it turns out, isn't particularly Christmas-y at all, just red.  I'll get it quilted and finished right away, so I can use it all winter.  I will return to the other blocks soon.

Block progress

I've sewn up several more blocks this week for the ongoing COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS series being offered by Moda.

These are not the official layouts -- they have not been revealed yet.  I'm just spreading out the blocks I've done in random order, to see what I've accumulated.

My red and white "Peppermint Park " set only needs one more 18" block and one more 12" block.

My traditional "Candlelight" set also needs one 18" block, as well as some 6" fillers.  I think I will probably make 9-patches for the fillers.

And my classic "Candy Cane Lane" set still needs an 18", a couple of 12"-ers,  and quite a few 6" blocks.

This is probably the last sewing I'll get done until after the holiday interlude.

Countdown to Christmas

Last week, I reported about a cursory interest I might have for Moda's COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS sew-along.  The first block they released was interesting and pretty, and I decided at that point to consider a "someday" red and white sampler.

Since then, things have mushroomed.
I dumped one of my Christmas fabric tubs out onto the bed to see what might be lurking in there that I might use.  (First, note that I said "one of my Christmas fabric tubs", because there are more; actually several more tubs of Christmas fabric)  (!!!)

And suddenly all those cute holiday prints caught my eye, so you guessed it: more and more Christmas blocks have been pieced this week, in addition to the red ones I was originally thinking about.

These red and white blocks will be used in the "Peppermint" layout.

These cute classic Christmas blocks will be used in the "Candy Cane Lane" layout.

And this group of more formal holiday prints will be used in the "Candlelight" layout.

Moda is also offering two more variations: Gingerbread and Fair Isle.  Just sayin' ...
