En Provence

Hooray -- a finish!  This is my version of Bonnie Hunter's 2017 mystery, En Provence.  I trudged through assembling the top last February, and then got tired of it and wrapped it up for a year.

It rose again to the top of my UFO collection during January, and I included it on my Q1 2018 Finish-A-Long list.  Finally, I got it layered, quilted and bound, and ready to use for Spring/Easter!

This project will be linked as a completion for this quarter's Finish-A-Long.

En Provence

Spent an exceedingly tedious day assembling sub-units and rows, but I made it!
Center is complete (and correct!!) and now I can finally move on to borders.

En Provence

Today is the final link-up for
Bonnie Hunter's En Provence 2017 Mystery Sew-Along.

I still have a ways to go, but mine is coming along satisfactorily.  It's so easy to get one (or several) of the sub-units turned the wrong way while assembling a row -- I have to be in the mood for slow careful concentration.

I'm very pleased with the color substitutions I chose, and it's looking "tulip-y" to me :)  I'm aiming to have the top, including whatever borders I decide to add, completed by April ... so I can hang it over the upper stair railing for the Easter season.

En Provence

I spent an hour of quality time with En Provence, and worked one of the stars out to its conclusion at the corner.  Borders will come later, but this demonstrates what the pieced center will look like.
Assembly goes slowly: the sub-unit creation and 'thinking' part is done now, so I just need to trudge along and get it together.

I have enough of this novelty print for the back.  I'm targeting March for completion so I can use the quilt at Easter time in April.

The rest of my book order came today :)

En Provence

It's starting to come together!

When last I shared my En Provence progress, we were on Clue #5.  In the meantime, the mystery was revealed.  I haven't had a long afternoon of concentration available to spend on it during this past week, but today I was able to figure out where I'd left off, and try a block layout.

Talk about a mental challenge!  I must say, this is a very complicated block, with many intersections to be matched!  The aqua parts are actually the sashing strips, but the pink stars overlap into the sashing, so everything has to be organized and ready to go.  (And turned the right way, just sayin')

I did need to make additional pieces of some of the sub-units, because I had been aiming for "smaller than" the original and my rounding off wasn't enough to finish all the blocks.  I am quite happy with my color palette and placement -- my vision of April tulip fields is working out as I'd hoped.  I still have about a zillion parts to assemble, but it's going to be a nice quilt eventually!

En Provence #5

Caught up today with my 2/3 units for

We were delighted to get 18" of new snow this weekend -- it's ski season here in Big Bear!

En Provence

Snowy and cold outside this morning.
The latest En Provence clue from Bonnie was easy: a repeat of Week #2 but using different colors.  I'm still doing approximately 2/3 of the units for a smaller quilt.  I may need to make a few more of each unit at the end to round out the right number for entire blocks and rows.

My "tulip fields" colorway :)

A little behind ...

I got a late start on this week's Step 3 for En Provence --
I was having too much fun with Lorenzo!

Anyway, I have many more 4ps to go yet, but at least I can see the colors happening.

Here's my fabric palette for the quilt,

and these photos are my color inspirations:
tulip fields instead of Bonnie's lavender fields :)

En Provence Step 2

Moving right along with

Again I made 2/3 of the called-for number of units, because I'm planning on a smaller quilt.  These triangle sections were made using a Tri-Recs ruler set I already had, although Bonnie offers several options for cutting and piecing.  The instructions use magenta as the constant fabric color, but I'm going my own way here with aqua.

Neutrality

I've decided to sew along on Bonnie Hunter's 2016 Mystery, En Provence.  I haven't done one of her mysteries in several years, but I got the itch again this time :)  While her quilt will be predominantly purples, I'm going to be working toward a Spring/Easter color scheme, as yet to be determined.

I want to end up with a smaller quilt, so I'm making 2/3 of the units called for in each step.  Step 1 had us making neutral 4ps.   I didn't plan it this way, but I just noticed that this is a very neutral photo, with the ironing board cover background and the snow outside enhancing the mood.  More colorful next week!
