Blockheads 2

It's an "all's well that finally ends well" completion for a project that had been in a slump for many months --  kind of reminds me of Neapolitan ice cream :)

I finished stitching the binding on my Blockheads 2 Variation quilt last night, well before my February target date!  This is already my second completion of the year, so I'm offsetting several new starts I've undertaken this month: RSC, Stars in Her Crown and Bullseyes.

Blockheads 2

One of my strategies for being productive in 2019 is to observe a correspondence between my unfinished quilt projects and my new starts. This doesn't necessarily mean I must have an exact one-to-one start/finish ratio … but at least I'm going to try to have made an effort to move an old one forward before I begin something new.  Soooo, since I'll be undertaking several new RSC activities this month, I needed to rack up some
progress on a UFO.

Here is my last visit to my Blockheads 2 project, a Moda sew-along that began last February.  The sew-along is still ongoing, but I decided sometime last summer to step away -- to use the blocks I had already accumulated, and do my own (smaller) version of the official project.  (A side observation here: I've decided that I'm not committing to any more long-term sew-alongs for a while.  This year I'm choosing to work at my own pace on my own areas of interest.)
Anyway, here's where it stood in October:

At that point, I needed to finish my layout with a few more blocks, assemble the rows with setting triangles, and add borders.  I'm happy to report that the top is now done, and ready to be layered and quilted!  I have backing and binding set aside on the 'almost done' pile, and the project tub can now be emptied.  I'd really like to have this quilt finished for February -- I'll be continuing to give it attention in the coming week or so.

Blockheads 2

Variation on #25 - Oshkosh Star

This block fills the last empty spot in my layout, so I'm officially done piecing weekly Blockhead blocks.  I'm going to let it hang on the design wall for a while.  In order to complete assembly, I'll need to unearth something for setting triangles … later.

I've also settled on a satisfactory layout for the blocks I've already pieced for Antebellum Album -- not planning to make any more blocks for that one either.  So right now I'm "off duty" as far as sew-alongs go.
Sigh -- definitely moving into a different phase here.

#23 - Broken Windows

I just need one more block, and then the layout I'm doing will be complete.

Blockheads 2

… but it's not really Blockheads any more.  Sigh.  Again this week I didn't care for the 'official' Blockheads blocks, so yet again I've chosen my own.  I'm going to give this mystery one more week, and then give up on pretending I'm doing the Blockheads sew-along.

Windmill
 Indian Star

I do, however, feel good about the layout I've got going.  We'll see what happens next Wednesday -- if it's another block I don't care for, I'm ready to just sew ahead on my own and get this off of my design wall.

#14 - Corner Pocket + #15 - Fidget Spinner

I was yearning to sew today -- seems like it's been a LONG time since I worked in my room.  I couldn't get access to the earlier blocks for a group picture because the crib is still set up from our house guests.  And I see that I missed last week's block in all the commotion, so I'll circle back and catch that one eventually.

Jace's Star - simplified
I simplified my block this week -- the original called for many teeny tiny triangles, and I just didn't have the attention span to tackle it.

Blockheads 2

This week's Blockheads block is a 'prim' appliqued pineapple.  I didn't feel that it fit the vibe of my block set, so I opted for a traditional pieced pineapple log cabin block instead.

Blockheads 2

#1 - Stellar Star

Moda's new BLOCKHEADS 2 mystery quilt started yesterday.  New blocks will be published each Wednesday, and it will  run through the beginning of April next year.

I'm not 100% committed to doing the whole series, but this first block, STELLAR STAR by Lynn Hagmeier,  was a nice one.  Basic info and fabric requirements for the mystery can be found HERE.  I have a large tub full of pink and brown repros, so should I choose to do the whole shebang I won't need to buy anything at all.
(And that's amusing because I have large tubs full of EVERYTHING)
