RSC17: September - orange

I haven't worked on any RSC stuff for a while, but I like orange - this month's color - so I decided to pull out one of the project bags.  Just a quick half hour of sewing, and some orange toadstools appeared :)

I have quite a few of these blocks already.  Didn't bother to lay them all out, but this gives us an idea of where this project might be headed.

Off to a modest start with blue scraps.   These "mountain" units are much more successful this month using blue than they were last month with yellow!

It seems like I have quite a few of these homespun blocks -- I'm going to count them up and see where that project stands.

Just barely yellow ... a sunflower-inspired little utility quilt.  I just didn't have much in the way of yellow to work with this past month.  The RSC color assignment for July is BLUE, let's see where that takes us.

RSC17: June - yellow

We're starting a new RSC color this week -- yellow is a nice summery color.

I did a quick scrabble through my yellow scrap bag, and found that most of the pieces are actually gold because I work with repros most of the time.

These yellow toadstools show up well against the

rust backgrounds. 

But these yellow tris don't look great against the pale green, so I just did a very few. Yuck.  These are an addition to an existing block set which uses the celery solid as background, so I'll just limit this month's blocks and wait till we move on to a better contrast.

 

And what seemed to be yellow homespuns are really in fact gold, so I couldn't do much here either.

So for now just a scant few yellowish pieces sewn up ... we'll see what happens next week.

RSC17: May - green

Believe it or not, it's the last weekend in May already, so this will be the finale for green. 

I buckled down and finished this month's crib quilt

I also did a few more Mountain Meadow units

 and another group of L blocks.

 The L set is expanding!

Curious to learn what next month's RSC color will be!

RSC17: May - green

Sigh.  Very little to report for RSC-GREEN this week.  I did get the disappearing 9p blocks chopped and assembled, but I didn't even go on to add the final top and side sections.  No excuses, my heart just wasn't in it.  The news is such a distraction lately.  

The goal for these monthly crib quilts is to decrease my 30s stash enough that I can comfortably open and close the dresser drawers where it's being stored.  Not yet ...

RSC17: May - green

Progress with green ...

I pieced this month's green Lincoln's Platform blocks

 This block set is beginning to develop.

 I also made up another dozen Toadstools.  There are LOTS of these already this year, maybe I'll lay them all out next month.

 And I got everything calculated and cut for the 30s crib quilt.  This month it's going to be a quick Disappearing 9-patch.

Meanwhile, the weather has been so pretty the past few days I'm spending more time outside in the garden than in the sewing room!

RSC17: May - green

New month, new color, and it's a really good one this time!  We're going to be working with GREEN scraps during May.  I have endless amounts of GREEN fabric, both scraps and yardage, so I should get plenty of sewing done this time around!

I started off by adding to these two sub-unit sets

that I'm doing every month.

RSC17: April - multicolor

April's RSC challenge has been "multicolor."  I haven't participated each week this month, but I do have a multicolored finish to share as the month concludes.  

This nap quilt used up an assorted set of 30s nine-patch blocks from a long-ago swap.  I think it qualifies for this RSC challenge because it's multi and random!  I have one more evening's worth of stitching to finish on the binding, (just couldn't stay awake last night!) and then it will be ready to enjoy in the gazebo this summer.

RSC17 - a finish!

30s Steps - a bright springy completion

This quilt began with some swap blocks, and for a couple of years I added more blocks via Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  Then everything sat for quite a while, until last fall when I started assembling a top.  Another lengthy pause ... and now I've finally made it to the finish line: quilted, bound and ready to use this season!  It kind of reminds me of jellybeans :)

RSC 17: March - red

Our RSC17 challenge color for March is RED.

I had time this afternoon to get started for the month by making my quota of RED Lincoln's Platform blocks.

This block set is coming along satisfactorily.

Earlier this week, I was rummaging through my Orphan Blocks box, looking for green blocks to send to Sunshine Guild.  I did find a few greens, and during that excavation I also happened upon a good number of red and blue 30s blocks.  They caught my attention, so I set them out to work on. 

Yesterday, I made two more blocks to finish out a couple of the rows, and  assembled this top.  Since coincidentally our color for the month is RED, I'm already ahead of the game with my March crib quilt!  It's RED-enough to count, right?  :)

Meanwhile, I'm coughing and sneezing and sniffling my way through yet another cold/flu episode, third time since New Years.  My biorhythms are low.   I will be soooo happy when winter sick season turns to springtime airy and bright!

RSC17 - Yardbirds

I have an RSC completion to report!  I started these bird blocks several years ago, and only did a few before the project got sidelined. As per Angela's RSC challenge, I chose this little UFO bundle, made more birds, and forged ahead to completion this month.

 The bird pattern is from Lynne Taylor at Patchery Menagerie, and she now has it available for purchase HERE, although when I started these blocks it was a free tutorial she was offering.

 The egg fabric, which I've had in my stash for ten or fifteen years, became the color inspiration for finishing the quilt -- the palette actually reminds me of an earlier era: 1970s avocado, harvest gold, etc.  Not really a primary-toned RAINBOW like we'd expect from Rainbow Scrap Challenge, but anyway an array of colors.
