A finish!

Starowka, the 2024 Quiltville mystery, is quilted, bound, washed and dried -- done!!

I was aiming for a light bright springtime palette, and this quilt certainly meets that goal.  The intricate pieced design -- a trademark of Quiltville patterns -- is rather too busy for my taste.  In any case, I'm giving myself big pats on the back and high-fives for taking this project across the finish line.  My quilty mojo is very low these days, and I almost let this one lapse into UFO-ness.  But with perseverance I now have a lovely new Spring/Easter quilt.

Absolutely positively for sure this concludes my 'sew along' days.  Any more quilts I make from now on will be creations based on my own design inspirations and will be worked at my own pace.

Starowka

Well, I reached my max attention span with Starowka today.  It's supposed to have another pieced border, but this is as far as I'm going to take it.  Enough little pieces!  This burnout is why I don't often do Quiltville mysteries: Bonnie loves the zillions-of-little-pieces style, but I get overdone!  Just a quickie snapshot in dim end-of-afternoon courtyard light -- I'll do a truer-color portrait later,

Starowka resumed

And meanwhile, I'm buckling down to work on the borders for Starowka.  **Lots** of pieced sub-units to assemble!  When all is said and done, the borders will involve many hundreds more pieces, in addition to the thousands already in the center blocks.

Starowka

I'm making good progress on the blocks and pieced sashings for
the Quiltville 2024 Mystery quilt.  I'm happy with my springtimey color palette.

The original mystery quilt is twice as large, but I'm going to stop here at lap size because I don't have a need for more big quilts in my life at this time.  Onward to borders, but I'm going to take a little break first, such intense piecing  ...

Starowka

Woohoo!  Today was **reveal** day for Bonnie's Quiltville mystery
The quilt is stunning, as Bonnie's quilts always are: zillions of pieces, complex, scrappy.

I'm almost caught up with all the clues and subunits.
This heap contains more than 2400 pieces sewn into subunits and pinned into groups of ten!

I couldn't resist assembling a block first thing this morning-- this is going to be a gorgeous quilt!

Twenty-three more blocks to go, and the quilt also features very elaborate pieced sashing and borders, so this is just the beginning!

I'm aiming to have my version done by the end of March.  Very glad I decided to sew along this year!

Starowka

I worked my way through Clue #5 of the Quiltville 2024 mystery

Soooo many subunits already!  I'm still a whole clue behind, and a new one comes out tomorrow, but I'm feeling a little bit more back to normal with some peaceful sewing time under my belt after a week of holiday hubbub.

Starowka

It's Week 4 for Bonnie Hunter's 2024 Quiltville mystery

We are making **many** half square triangles this time.

I'm up to date with all four clues so far: lots and lots and LOTS of "parts" done already!
Looking forward to creating blocks soon :)

Starowka

 It's Week 3 for Bonnie Hunter's 2024 Quiltville mystery

This week our assignment is *a lot* of hourglass units.
They went together quickly for me, just need to trim them square.
Still working along on last week's *hundreds* of tiny 4-patches.

Starowka

The second clue for Bonnie Hunter's
was released over the weekend, and I had a chance to play with it for a while this afternoon. I'm off to a modest start.  We are to make **several hundred** teeny little 4-patch units. (!!!)  I'll be working on these a few at a time in groups of ten.

Starowka

I got a good start today on clue #1 of

We are to make **quite a few** flying geese units. (Bonnie does NOT want us to share how many pieces we're sewing or what size they are.  It's a mystery after all!)  I did get all my cutting done and also sewed up about a third of the required units.  Bonnie's mysteries are always quite intense, but the quilts are lovely.

I decided to join in this year as a distraction from the real world.  It remains to be seen if this will actually distract me ... seems like all that dystopia is still there.  Sigh.

Starowka

I'm restless and fussing around for something to distract myself with.  I think I'm going to sew along on Bonnie Hunter's 2024 Quiltville mystery, STAROWKA, scheduled to begin next Friday.

Here's my fabric pull, subject to change of course.  My reds are pretty light, so I'm going to substitute in yellows for Bonnie's pinks.  Her palette is blue, red, pink, and mine is tentatively blue, red, yellow.  I'm aiming for a springtime quilt.

I have done a number of the Quiltville mysteries in the past but don't always feel up to it every year. Some years I find Bonnie's intensity (and that of her followers) to be a bit too much for me.  Her designs are nice though, and maybe this much 'volume' will fill in the shadowy corners of my brain.

Meanwhile, I'm piddling around with some scrap blocks.  The black fabric tub is spilling out onto the floor, so it must be time for a little stashbusting.  Black and white chunky churns, and eventually some sort of bright sashing -- maybe turquoise, maybe not.
