Above pictures are 'befores' and the ones below are 'in process.'
We're back into *chaos mode* here again. The workmen are doing a nice job with the painting, and the dining room is brighter already. It was a drab gray-green, very gloomy and cavern-like. The previous owners really liked intense cool colors and tons of ornate STUFF (and I do mean every inch covered), but I prefer warm light simple rooms, and neutrals so I can add my seasonal accessories.
They used this room as their family room, and the back (dark green) room as a dining room, but we're reversing those functions. This room is the hub of the house, and has tall two-story ceilings, so it probably won't get painted again in my lifetime. We chose to go with off-white paint so it would match everything forever :)
The wood panelling around the woodstove and leading into the family room will be removed later next week as phase two of the project. (You can see where they already pulled off one panel to see how bad the wall was behind it.) It just adds to the cavelike feeling in there. And that goofy frosted-glass window in the corner will be closed, too. It doesn't lead outside, just to the family room which was added on later, and it's awkward there in the corner. Bit by bit, we're beginning to make this feel like our house!

Looks like you guys have your hands full right now! Im glad you are getting a chance to make the house your home...thats a wonderful feeling! Keep posting pics :)
It will be so nice when it is all in order! Hope it all goes smoothly for you.
Oh, that's going to look so much better when you get done. That two-story section is awesome.
Wow, I hate chaos, too. But it will be so wonderful and airy when you're done. Sometimes you have to put up with a temporary mess to have a forever-improvement!
Looks much better already. You'll be busy for a while yet though.
oh my they former owners really did like color and stuff ...
Its going to be wonderful when you guys get done!
I just love wood stoves!
You know Jeanne you must have had a very good imagination when you looked round that house to see beyond all the colour and clutter - I'm usually very good at that sort of thing but from your 'before photos' I think even I would have had a real job on - you're making such big but good changes I'm sure it will be worth it in the end
Wow, the before looks like a Victorian House in Town, not a Little House in the Woods! I admire you for seeing beyond all the "stuff" to realize the house's potential! Your progress is such an improvement.
Wow what a re-do! I think you will be so happy when that paneling goes!
So lovely that you are making this YOUR home!
