Big leap of progress here!
I got my scrappy star blocks assembled, and things are looking good. I'm pretty sure I have enough of the orange fabric left to eke out a narrow float border -- measuring will tell. Although the antique inspiration quit was on-point, I think my straight-set version is a good interpretation. Just didn't feel up to dealing with setting triangles and bias ...

I wouldn't have been tearing my hair out over bias and such either - b'sides I like the straight on setting better anyway. Well done!
