Another year, and I'm off to a new start with
I've puttered along sporadically with RSC for five years or so already, but this year I hope to make some real progress with scrap taming. This is the out-of-control corner where I store scrap bags, which are sorted by color but not size. I think my goal will be to reduce each bag enough so by the end of the year they'll all fit comfortably and reasonably into that laundry basket where they belong.
January's RSC color is PURPLE. Here's the dump of my purple scrap bag ... my fabrics certainly tend away from true purples toward reddish plums, don't they?
So I've chosen a couple of blocks to work on each week of the month in the color of choice, maybe ten or twelve block sets if all goes according to plan. I'll be starting each month with the blocks that require the largest chunks, and hopefully will work down to "tiny bits" by the end of each month, in theory anyway. Leading off for Week 1 are Lincoln's Platform and Spinwheels. These are both 12" blocks. If time allows this weekend, I'll sew another one or two of each, before I move on to next week's blocks.
I also plan to decrease my 1930s fabric stash by sewing up an easy flannel-backed baby quilt each month in the assigned color. While this won't be a "scrap" project, it will eat up some of the color of the month. Here's the beginning of the January PURPLE project - purples and oranges, with the darker polka dot yardage as the flannel backing piece.

Good luck working down that scrap pile!! Seems like to have a good plan to make that happen. Happy SCRAPPY sewing!!
Wow, lots of fabric to play with, lovely blocks and a great goal.
Getting those scrap bags to fit in a basket sounds like a great goal for the year. Enjoy!
You have great plans for the year.
Your first two block choices look like great scrap busters!
Wow, you are ambitious! I love the Lincoln Platform block, it's not one I'd heard of before. Here's to 2017 scrap busting.....good luck!!
I love these blocks! I really like your idea of planning to make big blocks at the beginning of the month and get smaller as the month goes on.
