Cherry Dessert Squares


My friendship group, Stitchy Fingers, came for lunch and a visit today.  They really enjoyed this cherry cobbler I served!

CHERRY DESSERT SQUARES

1 pkg. yellow cake mix
1 1/4 c. rolled oats, divided
1/2 c. melted butter, divided
1 egg
2 cans cherry pie filling
1/2 c. sliced almonds
2 tblsp. brown sugar

Preheat oven to 350*
Prepare 9 x 13 pan with cooking spray.
Combine dry cake mix, 6 tblsp. butter and 1 cup oats until crumbly.
Set aside 1 cup crumbs for topping.
Add egg to remaining crumb mixture and combine well.
Press firmly into prepared pan.
Spread cherry pie filling evenly over crust layer.
To the reserved crumbs, add remaining 2 tblsp melted butter, 1/4 cup oats, almonds and brown sugar.
Mix until crumbly.
Sprinkle over cherries.
Bake at 350* for 35 - 45 minutes, until golden brown.
Serve warm topped with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
