An excursion

We took a ride yesterday afternoon, up to Holcomb Valley.  It's an area on National Forest Service Land that was the site of a gold-rush boomtown in the 1860s, even earlier than here in Bear Valley.  Just a few old building sites and ruins and graves remain.  It's high and quiet and remote.  The Forest Service roads above Big Bear are rough gravel, and they close them on Nov 1 for the winter, so we were happy to get this drive in yet this season.  It's so pretty back up there, I felt like I was transported to a different time and place!  It's hard to imagine what the life of a pioneer must have been like.

How beautiful, I had no idea that was up there. I really need to get hubby to go up to the mountains one of these days, I haven't been up to your neck of the woods since I was a kid.

I'd really like to get out there from the east coast someday. Looks beautiful! BTW - interesting that the plaque mentions the father, but the mother was some anonymous person!

We enjoy Holcomb Valley, tho we don't go there all that often. Strange, as it is so close.

Lovely pics that you got here. Hope you had a wonderful time. :)

Have you been to Oktoberfest this year?
