Time flies when you're having fun!

Another week gone by -- the days just fly past! Earlier this week we celebrated my Mom's 83rd birthday. I baked a coffeecake for her afternoon get-together group at the seniors complex, and then later we took her out to dinner. She's doing so well here, better than I had dared hope.

We've been having a real cold spell -- down into the teens over night -- and they started blowing snow on some of the ski slopes. (I know the Rockies and points east are getting the real thing, but this was a pretty exciting event for our small community, which is completely a tourist town.) They're hoping to have the slopes open soon, well ahead of the usual Thanksgiving weekend target. We can certainly expect real snow in the coming weeks -- last year the accumulation up here was well over 8 feet, but it's fun to see the *magic* snow start to appear. This is the view from my grocery store parking lot: it's so beautiful up here, every day feels like we're on vacation!

We gratefully picked a LOAD of apples from a neighbor's tree the other day, and made up a couple of batches of applesauce. About 10 pounds -- approximately 50 apples -- cooked down into 12 cups of applesauce for the freezer. This didn't even use one of the baskets-full, so we'll be at it for a while yet. The house smells wonderful, apple-y and cinnamon-y, yum!

The faux snow mountain looks hilarious! I don't know what I was expecting as I read your description, but I giggled when I saw it.
