Thursday

Yesterday I decided to unearth these applique blocks 'from the vault' -- they've been aging in a bottom drawer for a couple of years now.

They are from an old BOM called PHOEBE's FAVORITE that featured a specific technique: dogtooth applique ... which translates to 'zillions of points.'  As we know, I'm not the world's most proficient applique-er, and I do get myself in over my head at times.  This was one of those times.

The original plan called for appliqued cornerstones and borders also, but that's not going to happen.  At this point I'm going to take the shortest route to the finish line.  The bundle of stuff associated with this project has been cannibalized several times already, so I'll need to make some new design decisions. I'm no longer purchasing fabric, so something here will have to work.  Not to worry, my stash is deep.

I'm definitely in the twilight of my quiltmaking career, and I've become increasingly pragmatic about how I want to spend my time and energy.  But I do have a LOT of handwork time invested in this project already, so it would be nice to Get. It. Done.

Can't imagine the patience it took to applique all that and there's no way I would be convinced that the time it would take to applique the borders too would be worth it. It would be lovely no doubt but the time it would take would eat into doing something else a lot more fun.
