A Family Tradition

Just a quick moment after dinner tonight, and a flash of memory.

The log nut bowl is an heirloom from my childhood, from my parent's marriage in the 1940s.  Tony's parents had one exactly the same: he remembers using it throughout his childhood, and his sister has it now.  In our own household, we've been having shell nuts after dinner during the winter season for decades, forever.  Dave -- and Nick also of course -- had them when young at home with us, and now the little boys are learning too.

It was always a tradition in my family growing up to have those types of nuts and I remember my grandmother having one of those bowls.
