On the First Day of Christmas

"The next twelve days are the mystical interval between Christmas and Epiphany, when time is suspended and magic can happen.  It's a thoughtful time, filled with reflection and expectation."

As I have done in years past, I'm going to take this time after Christmas Day to appreciate the gifts of my life.  My thoughts and reflections will be loosely based on the traditional European holidays that take place during these twelve days, as outlined in a favorite book, The Winter Solstice by John Matthews.  I am looking at things from a different perspective this year.

On this First Day, I am appreciating NATURE.  This topic was a challenge for me, because I don't have the natural surroundings here that I treasured in the past. But today I am choosing to be grateful for the beautiful memories I have of mountain vistas, snowy landscapes, wildlife and birds.  And in this new place I am grateful for bright unusual tropical flowers blooming in winter, and for balmy weather, and for tidy well-kept yards to enjoy as I take my daily walks

And the sun still keeps rising in the east and setting in the west, and I am still here to enjoy it!
