Sunday

After lots of local arguing, divisiveness and ill-will this past week, our community has suddenly and totally reopened from quarantine -- in defiance of the state guidelines.  Everything is open without restriction or observance of health practices.  This is confusing and disheartening: what was all the effort of the past 2 1/2 months about if we're throwing it all away now?  Unfortunately this is a tourist-driven economy, and they want the tourists up here, spending money on lodging, food, recreation and shopping.  I'm feeling sad today.  It's hard to understand the world any more.  We are choosing to stay safe at home for a while yet, going out only as necessary.  The future is uncertain.

It is awful. We have 31 covid positive patients in our hospital as of today...just one hospital. Hundreds of hospital in the metroplex! And.....they are opening everything back up. I work in ICU, so see a lot of them...but our real surge is coming now! Sigh...it IS SAD!!!

Probably wise to lay low for a while. My kids are coming over a little more but I haven't ventured out yet. There seems to be such a surge of people going to the National Parks and hiking trails and there is really a surge of accidents. If feels like some people are running amuck! They've been stuck inside for 2 months and now they have now sense at all.

oh, Jeanne, we're living eactly the same situation here. Economy is the only key word. It's such a shame, and doesn't show any human sense at all -sigh -
We've also decided to stay at home, no matter what they say. As being over 65, my husband having some health (cardiac) issues, and myself being diabetic, we are both at risk. So we're keeping our outings to the very minimum (grocery shopping twice a month), and wearing mask and gloves…
They say Covid victims are really decreasing, day after day, but we know they're cheating with the Numbers. Economiy, Economy, is all that counts… and they're already announcing BIG taxes in order to recover their losses - making us pay, instead of taking the money where it's well hidden (e.g. fiscal "paradises")…
The world goes crazy, and this makes me so sad, as well…

Our entire world is driven by the almighty dollar and to heck with the ordinary citizens. My fear is that they will open things up and there will be a huge viral backlash which will necessitate an even bigger closure. They are slowly opening things here in Ontario but on the weekend there was a huge mass of people in one of the parks in Toronto - totally ignoring the distancing guidelines. They're going to be the first ones to complain bitterly when the numbers go up and won't admit that it's their own darned fault. Resident Chef and I will be carrying on the way we have been the past couple of months and only making necessary trips to the grocery store as needed...wearing gloves.

I hear you loud and clear. In spite of the medical warnings many are putting their health and mine at jeopardy for the sake of their selfish wants and unfortunately the almighty dollar. I have not left my house since March 10 and do not plan to until the stats for my state - California - go down. So far the case numbers increase by two thousand a day. I'm fine - I order my groceries on line and have my quilting to keep me busy. I guess only time will tell and I'm in no rush. Take care and hope to see you all on the other side of the curve. Terry

Terry, you are no-reply. Where are you in California? Send me an email so I can answer you. Sending hugs!

Jeanne, my son lives in South Lake Tahoe and the town has put in place a fine for anyone who is in town and is not a resident. This weekend past he said things were very quiet but as we get into summer, it’s going to be difficult to keep this in place. He and my DIL work in the service industry and they are concerned for themselves. Here in Reno, things are opening on Friday but there are still limitations. The casinos open on June 4. That’s when we will get a real indicator of whether people will continue to use restraint.
