I like living at the top of the mountain! This is the view looking down the canyon as we start the drive down to the high desert below us to do doctors, shopping, etc.
And this is the view from the desert at the bottom, as we begin the drive back up to our 'island in the sky.' Click on picture to see arrow for Big Bear location -- it's about 45 miles as the crow flies from here up to the top, farther when driving because the road goes around the end mountain and then up the canyon.
And this is how it looks when we get HOME.
It's about a 90 minute drive each way, not bad when the weather is nice, but I'm always so happy to get back up here. We've had occasion to go down three times in the past two weeks for appointments, and I'm grateful for a safe ride each time.

I like cider donuts! These were a yummy autumn treat last weekend!

I like new books! I ordered these from the Martingale Press warehouse sale -- they were good bargains, and I have several new project inspirations marked. I don't ever follow book directions exactly, just use them as a jumping off point for my own interpretations :)

I like spooky wine labels! Found these at the market the other day, and they add a Halloweenish feel to the wine shelf in the dining room.

Hi Jeanne, I should say I've always eaten bulgar and fed it to my girls when they were little with the younger one calling it "vulgar bulgar",lol. But that bread recipe just might be worth the effort. Meanwhile, it is quite a route you have to follow there and I can appreciate your relief and happiness too to be safely back to your home in the sky. It is an amazing view for sure. I love books like those for inspiration too, but I do find myself in trouble when I go rogue with patterns though that seems to be my inclination too. Happy Thursday!
What a beautiful view you have! Definitely worth that drive! I bet you combine lots of errands and appointments on those days that you have to go into town. And what fun to get some new quilting books in the mail!
Hi Jeanne! That is a glorious view from your home. It also looks very dangerous driving down in snowy or icy roads. I'm sure you are an old hand at it now, and know enough to stay put when it's too bad. I'll just bet there are a few occasions when that bad weather sneaks up on you though - the mountains cause odd weather situations often. Your cider donuts look SO yummy! ~smile~ Roseanne
What fun wine labels!! And I love your mountain pictures. I grew up in the dry mountains of southern new mexico- the same island in the sky surrounded by high desert, and I still love it there. So beautiful!!
Beautiful mountains! How lucky you are. Cider donuts look delicious. I like Ravenswood - no whimpy wine! I like the Darkness Falls label. Satisfaction is good stuff. :-)
Oh my, your drive and the views; how fantastic! One of my favorite wines is Ghost Pine, but I haven't looked at the label. Those donuts look tasty!
I Like cider donuts, ravenswood wine, your home view, new books too!!!
