An interim solution …
Well, it's suddenly about ten minutes until Christmas, so I decided to just get this panel far enough along to hang over the back of the couch until after the holidays. It still needs LOTS more quilting -- just very basic outlining so far -- but the binding is on and turned, and so it can be used this way 'in the meanwhile'.
