After supper this evening, I opened the back door to let the dogs out, and was surprised to discover this Pygmy Owl perched on the porch bench. He was quiet and unafraid (hoping for a chipmunk I bet!) and stayed for a while, so I had time to grab my camera and catch him through the screen door.
I LOVE living here in the forest!!

How cute! And I do envy you. I keep telling my husband I want to go up to Big Bear sometime, I haven't been there since I was a kid, but there's always something else we have to do. I imagine it's changed a lot since then.
Isn't he just a cutie pie ! Glad he sat long enough for you to take the picture.
How cute! I would love to live in the forest too. Maybe I'll come live with you! :)
So sweet!
I am so glad that you were able to get your camera and take a picture. he is just a little darling..you ARE very fortunate.. thanks
He's a sweetie. I used to see owls all the time where I grew up, sadly I live in town now.
wonderful shot! I'm never that quick with a camera.
What a beautiful friendly visit!! I am glad you got the picture.
Oh, now that is adorable! What an intrepid photographer you are!
Adorable! I have never seen an owl in person. You are lucky to have caught the photo.
At first, I didn't see it and thought the post was going to show a GHOST!
Sometimes in the fall, if we sit quiet and look into the sky, near the trees, we will SEE an owl, or maybe a blur just off our peripheral. One sure does not HEAR an owl fly by!
How nice, he's looking right at home, maybe resting. 8-))
how cute that little owl is...glad the dogs didnt spook him off before you got this photo :)
i love living near nature too!
I never have heard of a Pygmy owl before! Pygmy Goats :O) yeppers...
He is cute your little owl friend. I really do love Owls..just wish we had a smaller variety here so they couldn't haul off full grown chickens and baby goats!!
So cute and how cool! We get owls on the power poles behind our yard occasionally, but never in the yard or near the house. We do, however, have a resident roadrunner in the backyard and 2 or 3 coveys (sp??) of quail, so I guess we will settle for that since we do live in a city of 2 million people.
What a happy surprise!
