After lots of local arguing, divisiveness and ill-will this past week, our community has suddenly and totally reopened from quarantine -- in defiance of the state guidelines. Everything is open without restriction or observance of health practices. This is confusing and disheartening: what was all the effort of the past 2 1/2 months about if we're throwing it all away now? Unfortunately this is a tourist-driven economy, and they want the tourists up here, spending money on lodging, food, recreation and shopping. I'm feeling sad today. It's hard to understand the world any more. We are choosing to stay safe at home for a while yet, going out only as necessary. The future is uncertain.
