Rhiannon has sent a request for a new crib quilt. I suggested some yellow fabric with a cute mousie print, but she's into 'purpah' these days, so purple it will be. It's only to be 42" square, so it will work up very quickly. And needless to say, I have *enough* purple fabric in stash to make several purple crib quilts :) I pulled these pieces for starters, and I'm looking forward to puttering with this project.
Meanwhile, work inches along with Christmas decorating. We're reinventing the wheel here. I'm usually all in with holiday decor, but my December things are snow and pine forest themed, and I don't have the heart to use them here in the tropics, at least not this first year while the loss is still so fresh in my heart. Sigh. Poinsettias seem to be appropriate for now, but we'll have to see where things end up. At least I have my familiar personal quilt collection to surround myself with from month to month. It's a thread of comforting continuity for me.

How fun to have a special request. I did not have a machine when my grands were that age but I was able to take a few special requests for stuffed animal outfits and such. I loved every minute and I know you will, too. I am sure that as time goes by you will warm to the local Christmas themes, but we all need time to grieve when there is a loss. For this year I applaud your decision to be gentle with yourself and ease into the newness of it all. Maybe you find out what local-themed decorations are the little boys favorites and that might ease the pain a bit. Best wishes on this new journey.
ReplyDeleteI think Christmas will always be about mountains and snow regardless of where I live. I grew up 'at the crest of the Wasatch Mountains' in northern Utah and our winters were long and bitter. I've since lived in Las Vegas, Western Colorado (where the snow from our snowstorms usually melted by 10am) and now in a place that is cold but doesn't get much snow. But, I understand your reluctance to put those decorations out. My advice to myself is to make some new and different memories this year since things can't be the same as usual. (I haven't figured that out yet though.)
ReplyDeletePurpah is one of my favourite colours too so I'm looking forward to seeing what you're creating.
ReplyDeleteI find Christmas decorating changes and evolves over time. I used to be all-in and decorated pretty much every inch of the place but now I prefer a much more minimal approach and would even happily do without a tree but Resident Chef likes it so I go along with it.
How absolutely adorable "Purpah" is!! I have one granddaughter that loves purple too...she got my purple butterfly with Snow Geese flying around it...
ReplyDeleteit is such fun making quilts for these special people in our lives...enjoy hugs from afar--stay safe ;() Julierose
What a beautiful girl! I know how hard it must be switching gears for winter. We are keeping it low key since there will be no socializing. Making the best of a bad situation. Looking for bright spots like your lovely grand daughter’s request for a quilt from her Grammy 💕
