I'm smiling

Dingdingdingding! Presenting my first quilt of 2010!! I've been tucked away in my room whenever I've had a few minutes, figuring out the layout for Cherry Cordial, my newest "masterpiece." Lots of arithmetic and trial-and-error with this style of layout --all different sized blocks -- what is this called? A collage? A mosaic? Randomness? Anyway, I worked ahead on some of my Block-a-Day blocks because I wanted to get this one assembled for February. A few leftover swap blocks in here, too, and I'm pleased with how everything came together. We have some snow coming later this week, so I'll have a good excuse to stay home and get it layered and quilted.

*****
A moderate crisis: our trusty waffle iron -- our breakfast companion for more than 30 years now -- gave up the ghost this morning!

So we took a little ride down the road to try out Sugar Pine Bakery, a new place that recently opened on the other side of town. Everything looked delicious! We brought home some cheese-filled pinwheels, a chocolate brioche, and a cinnamon swirl, all flakey croissant-type pastries.

We'll be shopping for a new waffle maker soon, but meanwhile Breakfast Plan B worked out pretty well :)

Oh your first quilt finish is wonderful! I'm loving all those block a day blocks you have been doing and now putting them together like that is sooo cool.

How could you go wrong in a sweet shop with such a cute name?

Enjoy!

Pink isn't a color I usually work with, but could be tempted if I could turn out something this pretty! Congrats on your first finish of the year--hope to see many more.

The breakfast and its background of the blue and white quilt both look great!

I just love your idea of seasonal quilts and different ones for different months. You are sooooo good at figuring out how to make blocks from many different sizes fit and work well together. Great job! Sorry about your waffle iron. My Grandpa died in 1973 and my sister got the waffle iron and it died last year - it was a sad day indeed. Those old appliances - the new ones you just don't get so attached to, I guess. Cheers! Evelyn

wow those pastries look wonderful. I'm not sure I'd replace my waffle iron right away. But I got a Waring Belgian wafflemaker a couple years ago. It makes wonderful waffles, beeps to tell you they are done and is reasonably priced. It is also fast enough to put out waffles for a crowd.
